powers, skills, pets and equipment: Walsh has no supernatural powers, and is not going to be getting any Scorched powers.

Abilities, he comes with a honed detective skill, being a good ten years, at least, on the job in the New York Police Department. He's good at his job, and cases get closed. He's good at extracting information whilst remaining a blank book, quick to think on his feet. He can do the interrogations, the investigations and the firefights with ease, being able to roll with everything, and not being surprised by the majority of situations he finds himself in.

He's physically fit, and is known to be able to play baseball to a major-league standard.

canon history: Detective Jason Walsh was born in New York City, but wasn't always wanting to be a policeman. In high school, he played baseball, prioritising it over most of his other studies, and got called up to the minor leagues.

Walsh played for the New York Yankees in the minors, and managed to get in with a bad crowd. When he was 22, he threw a few games for money on the side, but that didn't stop him from eventually progressing to the major leagues. Once in the majors, he stopped throwing games, knowing that this was his chance to make it big. However, the people Jason worked for before weren't happy about this...

It started off as threats to him, stuff Walsh could take, however it soon escalated. Jason's girlfriend at the time was attacked in what the cops called "A mugging gone wrong." He knew exactly what had happened, however, but, for obvious reasons, couldn't tell the police. His girlfriend was in hospital for a week, before she eventually died.

After this, Walsh quit his major league career and joined the NYPD. Despite having used his high school years to play ball, Jason quickly rose through the ranks and made detective. He got assigned to the 2nd Precinct, commonly known as "the Unusuals" due to the nature of their cases often being abnormal in nature. This is where he currently is.

personality: Jason Walsh is seen to be an easy-going guy. He projects an almost lax and lazy air, is a fan of practical jokes, particularily on Detective Eddie Alvarez.

When he's on the job, however, Walsh is a quick thinker, taking things seriously. He's smart, good at his job, and gets the vast majority of his cases solved.

Due to working in the 2nd, Jason is pretty jaded to weird things happening. Most of his cases seem to have unusual twists to them, and he rarely seems surprised when something goes in the complete opposite direction than it began. Being in homicide, Walsh isn't squeamish around dead bodies, either, showing great composition when dealing with them.

When questioning people, he's often straight and to the point, but is capable of reading the perp and choosing the right path to get the answers he needs, whether it be intimidation, distraction or otherwise.

Jason does, however, have a more personal side. He dislikes talking about himself, and will only reveal personal details about his past to people he trusts. Casey Shraeger is an example. Walsh told her about what he did when he was in the minors, what happened to his girlfriend, why he stopped playing baseball and became a cop.

He has a very good working relationship with the other detectives and officers in the 2nd precinct, the only exception being Det. Eddie Alvarez (Who doesn't get along with anyone, really). He is also in a romantic relationship with Det. Alison Beaumont. Their relationship being pretty serious, in so far that she is the second one that Walsh tells about what happened when he played ball.

Jason gets on very well with his partner, Casey Shraeger. The two seem to be on similar wavelengths, despite having different backgrounds. They work well together, and Walsh sometimes goes out of his way to help Casey with her individual cases, and Casey repays the favour.

Walsh shows a great level of trust and respect in his fellow policemen. If one he knows is in trouble, he doesn't hesitate to help to the best of his ability. He believes that police should be given a bit of slack, but not to the level of corruption. He is incredibly loyal and will defend to the death, or until it's physically impossible or he's proven wrong. He describes himself as a "big, dumb, dog."

Jason Walsh, in summary, is easy-going, but serious when it counts. He's deep, holds his secrets close, and his friends and loved ones closer. He's not afraid to voice his opinion or take action on it, especially when he's in the right. He's methodical, and practical, able to think on his feet.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? Jason is a calm thinker. He's used to unusual events happening in his life, and can easily adapt to most situations he finds himself in. He's also a police detective, and very good at his job, able to keep a calm head in most situations.

Third Person Sample: It helped, you know? Having something away from the job, a hobby, if you will. That's all the diner was to Jason, basically. That, and a helping hand at times. If he needed more money for rent, or anything, he'd just open up for a few more hours than usual. It's New York, people are always hungry. He gets a steady stream of customers when he does open, too.

But, mostly, it's what he does when he needs distracting. Being a cop in New York isn't easy sometimes. There's murders, thefts, drug heists... And the second squad usually got the brunt of the unusual stuff. STD-raving clowns, people disguising stolen evidence as bobblehead toys... Anything, you name it, the second has dealt with it.

And then there's the paperwork. Don't even get him started on the paperwork. It's what's finding Jason Walsh, at 9pm, still sat at his desk. His duty shift finished hours ago, but he had to write up about a hypochondriac who went around wiping people all over with antiseptic wipes...

...And he means all over.

Still, its part of the job, and he does it just as good as any other, more enjoyable, aspect of being a detective. He just wishes he didn't have to put the words Assaulted victim's crotch with lemon-scented cleanser down on paper... But that was the life, and he wasn't going to complain. He chose it, after all. Besides, it made things fun, sometimes. Especially at the really ridiculous stuff.

He was nearly done, though, and was already planning his time off. Home, sleep, open up the diner for a few hours. He needed to decide on a special... Maybe goulash again. Interesting stuff always happened when that was on the menu.
